Traditional Grog (Cold)

from The Craft of the Cocktail

  • 1.5 ounce Heavy-bodied Rum
  • 1 ounce Honey Syrup
  • .75 ounce Lemon Juice
  • 4 ounces Water
  • Lemon (Garnish)

Shake the ingredients with ice and serve over ice in a rocks glass. Garnish with a lemon wedge.

Strictly speaking, grog is either a hot or a cold drink of rum, sugar, molasses or honey, lemon juice, and water in the proportions below. In The Flowing Bowl by William Schmidt, the author calls for hot tea instead of water.
