Pica Cocktail

from The Craft of the Cocktail

  • 1.5 ounces Cardenal Mendoza Brandy
  • .25 ounce Galliano
  • 1.5 ounces Pineapple Juice
  • 2 dashes Grenadine
  • Flamed Orange Peel (Garnish)

Pour all the ingredients in the glass section of a Boston shaker. Fill with cubed ice and shake hard to a slow count of ten (or to the count of the first line of "Girl from Ipanema"). Strain into a chilled martini glass. Flame an orange peel over the surface of the drink and drop it into the glass.

This was my second-place prize in the Cardenal Mendoza cocktail contest. (My former employee at the Rainbow Room, Jeff Becker, won first. That didn't hurt so bad; I trained him.)
