Meloncholy Baby

from The Craft of the Cocktail

  • 1.5 ounces Absolut Citron Vodka
  • .75 ounce Lemon Juice
  • 2 ounces Simple Syrup
  • .5 cup chopped Canteloupe
  • 3 ounces Water
  • Flamed Lemon Peel (Garnish)

Blend all the ingredients with crushed ice and serve in a tall glass. Garnish with the flamed lemon peel.

One of my most memorable experiences as a bartender was in the Rainbow Room: I created a special drink, on the spot, for a woman who had just ended a love affair and was really, really down in the dumps. It had flaming lemon peels and ended up becoming the drink of the night.
