Jack Rose

from The Craft of the Cocktail

  • 1.5 ounces Applejack
  • 1 ounce Simple Syrup
  • .75 ounce Lemon Juice
  • 2 dashes Grenadine
  • slice Apple (Garnish)
  • Cherry (Garnish)

Shake all the ingredients and strain into a small cocktail glass. Garnish with the apple slice and a cherry.

Albert Stevens Crockett, author of Old Waldorf Bar Days (1931), loved to set the world straight on cocktail names. He assures us that the Jack Rose was not named after an infamous person, but was in fact named for a pink rose called the Jacquemot rose.
