Fancy Brandy Cocktail

from The Craft of the Cocktail

  • 2 ounces Brandy
  • .5 ounce Curaçao
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
  • 2 dashes Peychaud's Bitters
  • Lemon Peel (Garnish)

Shake with ice and serve in a small cocktail glass. Garnish with the lemon peel.

The original cocktails in Jerry Thomas's The Bon-Vivant's Companion or How to Mix Drinks (1862) were just called by the main spirit they contained — like this one. The word "fancy" was tacked on if a lemon peel garnish was used.
